Therapy and Wellness Connection offer a broad network of additional programs that serve to support and reinforce the educational and therapeutic goals for children with disabilities, as set by our speech, occupational, ABA and physical therapists. These services are uniquely-tailored for children and their families, and include:

  • Individualized education/homeschooling instruction
  • Tutoring
  • Day programs (therapy groups)
  • Thrive Summer Camp
  • Vocational skills training
  • Before and after care
  • Connection to alternative therapies
  • Parent training/instruction
  • Connection to counseling services

Part of what sets Therapy and Wellness Connection apart from the rest is our dedication to holistic treatment of children and young adults with special needs that will give them every tool they need to succeed in life. Offering these additional specialized support services is our way of making that happen by ensuring nothing is overlooked.

Each program (detailed individually below) is run from our Brecksville clinic. However, because we aren’t preparing our clients to live out their days in a controlled therapy center, we do seize every opportunity to venture outdoors and connect with nature, pursue hands-on learning, see new sights, move their bodies and allow them to discover, grow and engage with all the Cleveland-Akron metro area has to offer.

We never set limitations on what may be possible for these young people. Instead, it’s our job to say, “We know you can.”

We’re here to help, offering instruction, guidance and support to promote confidence, connection and independence.

What Makes Therapy and Wellness Connection Programs Special

The hands-on approach of our teachers, therapists, support professionals and volunteers make these programs possible – as well as enriching and fun. Each offering is either therapist-led (with speech therapists, occupational therapists, behavior therapists and physical therapists offering direct, hands-on support as well as involved in activity and theme planning).

Therapy and Wellness Connection’s specialized program services are designed to:

  • Spark interest
  • Inspire self-motivation
  • Promote positive social interactions
  • Address specific therapy targets
  • Reduce stigmas and increase awareness
  • Improve communication skills
  • Adapt to a variety of stimulus
  • Foster meaningful friendships
  • Incorporate integrated therapy principles
  • Build confidence and self-esteem
  • Boost creativity
  • Encourage independence
  • Prepare for real world challenges
  • HAVE FUN!!!

We partner with Cleveland-Akron-area higher education institutions, vocational services and recreation activity providers throughout Northeast Ohio to ensure everyone gets the most of each program.

We can also help connect our clients to the kinds of alternative therapies that can help enrich their day – through the summer or doing the school year. These include:

  • Music therapy
  • Karate
  • Equine therapy
  • Art therapy
  • Dance classes

Parents and caregivers with questions about which Therapy and Wellness Connection program might best align with your needs should call or send us an email. Summer Camp

Children enrolled in our Thrive Summer Camp will spend summer months working on positive behaviors, social skills, sensory regulation and academic progress, while engaging in activities that are fun and age-appropriate in a safe, nurturing environment – all alongside typically-developing peers and siblings. Camps provide kids with the opportunity to play, move, explore, create, connect and build their self-esteem.

All Thrive Summer Camp activities and outings are designed to be fun, engaging and tailored for adaptation to each child’s age and skill level. Each camp has:

  • Minimum two therapists from multiple disciplines
  • High therapist-to-student ratios (ensuring children are safe and get the most from the experience)
  • Real-world outings (horse farms, zoos, science centers, Cleveland Metroparks, etc.)
  • Opportunities for inclusion of typically-developing siblings
  • Sibling and family-member volunteer helpers

For some parents of children with disabilities, many daycares and summer camps aren’t even an option they dare to entertain anymore. Some won’t accept older children who aren’t toilet-trained. Others aren’t equipped to handle children with their physical needs, communication delays or behavior challenges.

Thrive Summer Camp at Therapy and Wellness Connection has therapists who have your back. We’re not babysitters. We recognize this as a special opportunity for children to have a great time, experience new things, make a few friends and take something truly meaningful from each day – hopefully with a few lessons and memories they’ll carry with them a lifetime.

Inclusion is a priority here, which is why the Thrive Summer Camp welcomes children of all abilities. Many schools – either lacking the resources or the will – don’t do this enough. They should. It’s an excellent way to promote acceptance, understanding and friendship across the ability continuum.

Benefits of summer camp inclusivity:

  • Typically-developing kids lose whatever fear or misunderstandings they might have had about of people who are differently-abled and come to truly appreciate the traits that make each person unique and special.
  • Participants with disabilities get practice interacting with peers, following directions, abiding the same rules, respecting and establishing personal boundaries.
  • Everyone gets to discover new things daily – together!

All of it takes place with caring therapists, teachers and volunteers who ensure we’re fostering an environment that is exciting and interesting and positive and safe – and gives everyone a chance to join the fun!

Individualized Education – Teaching the Way THEY Learn

Children or young adults who are home-schooled, struggling in a mainstream school: Let us help.

Therapy and Wellness Connection offers individualized education programs, life skill and vocational services and connection to alternative therapies.

In some cases, children may not be able to attend classes in a regular school district, but their parents aren’t fully equipped to handle homeschooling on their own.

Therapy and Wellness Connection is committed to caulking the cracks these K-12 kids continue to fall through in public schools.

We host classes every weekday at our Brecksville therapy clinic from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Courses are designed to incorporate core subjects, abide state standards and align with Common Core curriculums – all taught in a manner modified to improve participation, confidence and retention. All this takes place in a center where interdisciplinary therapy is ongoing. If your child also receives private therapy services at Therapy and Wellness Connection (speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and/or ABA therapy), you can consider us your “one-stop-shop,” slashing time otherwise spent ferrying children between numerous service providers. Your child’s academic instructor always has the benefit of nearby therapists and development professionals who know your child – their motivators, triggers and personalities – if questions or issues ever arise.

Many of our education services are formulated with a project-based curriculum covering all required subject areas, yet keeping students engaged and poised for success.

It is our firm belief that no child is unteachable. They simply learn differently. Where the existing public education model aims to mold students to fit the curriculum, we mold the curriculum to fit our exceptional students.

Northeast Ohio Vocational Skills for Young Adults

Are you an adolescent or young adult with disabilities frustrated and floundering with attempts to land your first job? Let us help with vocational skills and training.

Many of “our kids” don’t outgrow the need for additional support services once they turn 18 or leave high school. That’s why we offer tailored vocational skills services at Therapy and Wellness Connection.

To prepare our clients for the real world, we provide on-site assistance with:

  • Creating a resume
  • Filling out an employment application
  • Preparing for a job interview
  • Successfully interviewing
  • Requesting reasonable accommodations from employers (as required under the Americans with Disabilities Act)
  • Navigating social interactions with supervisors, co-workers and customers

We partner with local higher education institutions (primarily Baldwin Wallace University) as well as local employers throughout Northeast Ohio to help ease the transition for our clients from a system of intensive support to greater independence.

Many businesses have enthusiastically embraced our facilitation of these employment arrangements and ensuring long-term success. Our clients land the opportunity to be part of a team, to contribute to carve out their own independence. Their employers gain workers who are competent, committed and contribute to team member diversity. Some employers even continue to rely on us as an ongoing resource, opening the door to additional opportunities for future clients as well.

We teach employers how to set clear and realistic expectations, issue effective direction and offer practical tools to handle whatever complications may arise. We also help companies identify potential ADA-compliance issues and solutions, provide ongoing on-site supports to clients and help ensure everyone is happy with the employment arrangement.

Parent Support, Training and Counseling

Parents are an integral part of our Therapy and Wellness Connection team. We know no child or person exists in a bubble, and the day-to-day challenges of raising, protecting and advocating for a child with disabilities can be all-consuming.

Our team works to give parents as much support and guidance as we can, training them on the therapeutic techniques and principles that we have found most effective in promoting healthy communication, behaviors and independence.

We also facilitate numerous Northeast Ohio parent support groups and organize different events and group playdates to help parents connect with each other. Sometimes having a child with special needs is not only time-consuming, it’s isolating. Having a solid support network of parents and peers who know and live those same challenges and who can offer advice, encouragement or just an open ear can be invaluable.

For parents who might benefit from one-on-one counseling, we contract with Effective Counseling Solutions, caring, compassionate counselors who offer an open ear and an invaluable tool to help you work through emotional turmoil, rebuild confidence and lay the foundation for living your best life yet.
